The application source code distributed in this repository is licensed under theMIT License. You may use, modify, and redistribute the code under the terms of the MIT license.

Content (Dictionary Data, Examples, and Curated Datasets)

All dictionary content, including word entries, translations, definitions, examples, curated datasets, and any derived data produced by the project (collectively, "Content"), is proprietary to Makobane Dictionary unless explicitly indicated otherwise.

Strict content usage rules

• Unauthorized bulk scraping, crawling, automated downloading, or copying of Content for the purpose of creating datasets or training machine learning models is strictly prohibited.
• Use of Content to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or benchmark language models or other machine learning systems is prohibited without prior written permission from the project maintainers.
• Redistribution of Content as part of third-party datasets, data products, or commercial services is not allowed unless a license has been granted in writing.
• Individual users may view, cite, or refer to Content for educational or research purposes provided attribution is given and no bulk extraction is performed.

API and Programmatic Access

API endpoints are provided to support interactive application functionality and light programmatic access. Programmatic access is governed by explicit rate limits and technical protections enforced by middleware.

• Automated bulk requests that attempt to download large portions of the Content are prohibited.
• Clients must obey rate limits, origin checks, and user-agent requirements; bypassing protections will result in access being blocked.
• For approved programmatic or research access, we may issue API keys and contractual terms; reach out to the contact above to apply.

Enforcement

Violations of these terms may result in one or more of the following actions: throttling or blocking of access, IP address or network range blacklisting, issuing takedown notices, and pursuing legal remedies.

The project reserves the right to take action without prior notice in cases of large-scale scraping or where Content is being used to train models without permission.

Attribution & Citation

When using Content for permitted purposes (e.g., citation, teaching), please attribute Makobane Dictionary and include a URL to the site in your work.
