Salutation from the Creator
"Tlaila le tlailel morena."(If one never made errors or mistakes, one might not discover the correct or most expedient way of doing things.)
Dumelang! (Greetings!)
I am delighted to welcome you to Ma'Kobane Dictionary, a labor of love dedicated to preserving and sharing the beautiful Sesotho language with the world. As someone who grew up speaking Sesotho and witnessing its rich cultural significance, I have always been passionate about creating resources that help others connect with this important language.
This dictionary is named in honor of my aunt, fondly known as Ma'Kobane, who was a storyteller, a keeper of our traditions, and my first teacher of the deeper nuances of Sesotho. Her wisdom, expressed through proverbs and stories, showed me that language is more than words—it's a carrier of culture, history, and identity.
Our Mission
Ma'Kobane Dictionary aims to be more than just a translation tool. Our mission is to:
- •Preserve Sesotho in the digital age
- •Make learning Sesotho accessible to everyone
- •Document dialectical variations and cultural contexts
- •Build a community of Sesotho speakers and learners
- •Connect younger generations with their linguistic heritage
I hope this dictionary serves as a valuable resource in your journey with Sesotho, whether you're a native speaker looking to deepen your understanding, a learner taking your first steps, or someone researching this rich Bantu language.
Ke lebohela thahasello le tshehetso ya hao! (Thank you for your interest and support!)
